What roof will you be living under when you’re 64? 74? 84? How will you pay for it? Will it treat your knees and hips and ankles kindly, or trip you up when you least expect it? Is that “Silver Sneakers” program really going to keep you fit into your 80s?

It’s not that often that a free event has 35 seminars with answers to questions like this. But the Post’s “Amazing Aging Expo” on Saturday (Sept. 28) at the Mariott Denver Tech Center does. In addition to the expo’s more than 100 exhibitors, the seminars tackle topics such as “What to do when you don’t know what to do: Options for Aging Parents,” “Outsmarting Investment Fraud,” and “Aging, Conditioning and Fall Prevention.”

The expo’s doors open at 8:30, and presentations from experts in the fields of investment, health, fitness and personal finance start on the hour, every hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the last round ending at 4 p.m. The Mariott is at 4900 S. Syracuse St., and parking’s free, too.

If you’re downsizing or pondering your retirement plans, this is the place to be. And if you want to prime your brain to make the most of it, here are links to a few stories to get you started.

Home section columnist Marni Jameson helped her parents downsize from the three-bedroom home she grew up in, then got that home ready to sell under extreme deadline pressure. She’s got tips for those trying to fix and sell quickly and efficiently, and how to suss out whether an agent is right for you.

Meanwhile, reporter Claire Martin – who went through the same experience of helping to downsize her parents’ home recently – writes frequently about empty-nest decorating, downsizing and creating a vibrant, artful home in a small, senior-friendly space.

I recently toured Bella Vita, a “55 and better” apartment building created from the old Aurora City Hall on Havana and Florida. Architect Shekhar Bhushan has spent most of his career working on senior housing, and built a myriad of details into the new building so that tenants can age in place – from careful attention to lighting and flooring to where the knobs go on oven/ranges and how wide handles on cabinets are.

And Personal Finance Editor Dave Burdick has written extensively about retirement planning. His three-part retirement planning series tackled the topic in depth.

I’ll be at the Expo’s Denver Post Columnist Corner from 11 a.m. to noon and 2 to 3 p.m., and other Denver Post editors and writers, including Dave, Claire, Editor Greg Moore and Travel Editor Kyle Wagner will also be there. Come talk to us about the Expo, the newspaper, the Broncos, the weather – anything and everything. We’d love to meet you in person.
